FAQ

WEEKLY MEAL DELIVERY

There are currently two different ways to experience Laroot: get weekly ongoing deliveries with our Laroot Passport, or choose our One-Week Trip for a commitment-free single purchase of Laroot meals.

What It Is: Laroot Passport is our subscription service that provides weekly meal deliveries on an ongoing basis. It’s the best way to experience the full diversity of our menu and is the easiest way to consistently eat clean. Every Monday, you’ll receive three lunches and three dinners that are nutritious, flavorful, and optimized for your personal well-being.

Two-Week Commitment: The Laroot Passport requires a two-weeks-minimum commitment at signup, but you’re free to cancel your subscription anytime after that window.

Skipping Weeks: Out of town? Out to eat? No problem. You can easily adjust your subscription by skipping weeks to fit your schedule. All account changes must be made by 6PM EST on Friday for them to take effect the following week.

Our One-Week Trip includes three days of lunches and dinners—no long-term commitment required. It’s a chance to get a taste of Laroot and a glimpse into what we’re all about. You can upgrade to the Laroot Passport at any time to start receiving meals every week.

Your meals are delivered every Monday morning in an insulated bag at the location of your choice. You’ll get text updates letting you know your meal is on the way and has been delivered.

We currently deliver to most NYC neighborhoods and have been working to expand our service to new markets. Follow us on social media for the latest updates on
expansion and delivery coverage.

Order by 6PM EST on Friday to receive your Laroot meals on the following Monday. If you’re a Passport subscriber, please make any changes to your subscription by 8 pm EST on Thursday as well.

To manage your subscription, log into the subscription portal.

Because our meals are handmade from scratch using premium ingredients, all sales are final and we do not offer refunds. If you have a specific question or concern about your Laroot experience, please get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to discuss a solution.

KITCHEN & FOOD SAFETY

Our food is produced in a beautiful spacious kitchen in Brooklyn which we share with other local chefs and restaurateurs.

Our executive chef, Megan Brown, hand-selects the finest ingredients from local purveyors in the greater New York area. Chef Brown is guided by deference to seasonality, sustainable practices, and expertise from trusted providers. Here are some of the purveyors we work with:

  • Eckerton Hill Farm: Heirloom Tomato, Peppers (Berks County, PA)
  • Norwich Meadows Farm: Certified Organic Vegetables (Chenango County, NY)
  • Ox Hollow Farm: Beef, Pork, Chicken, Eggs, Seasonal Vegetables (Litchfield County, CT)
  • PE & DD: Seafood Wild Ocean Fish and shellfish (Suffolk County, NY)
  • Phillips Farms: Vegetables, orchard and small fruit (Hunterdon County, NJ)
  • Quarton Farm: Fruits Vegetables, Herbs (Sullivan County, NY)

We will never ship your food. Your meals will always be personally delivered by our partner messenger company via a scooter or car.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is a central pillar of our business and our commitment to it is present in every aspect of our work. From the way we source ingredients, to our logistics and operational processes, to our charitable initiatives with community fridges, we are on a mission to raise the standard for sustainably driven businesses in the food and hospitality sector.

Laroot World does not rely on the global supply chain and instead sources exclusively local ingredients. We are undergoing a traceability audit during our launch phase to ensure that our practices are consistent with our ambitions — and we plan to share our advances in this sphere with Larooters as we progress.

Most items are packaged in glass containers with bamboo lids with accompanying recipe add-ons included in glass jars. Others may arrive in leakproof, compostable containers.

When ordering with us, you are also contributing to a conscious effort to reduce waste in our environment. To help reach our sustainability goals, we kindly ask our Laroot customers to return their reusable containers at the end of their experience. We’ll reach out to One Week Trip customers to arrange container pick up at the end of the week. For Passport Subscribers, please return your previous week's containers to our driver when we deliver the following week.

We’re committed to donating excess food to local community fridges across NYC and are constantly looking to partner with additional organizations that share our values.

NUTRITION

Each week, the Laroot kitchen procures only the highest-quality local ingredients. All recipes are absent of refined sugar, artificial ingredients, gluten, red meat, and GMOs.

Laroot combines nutritional wisdom from all over the world to create meals for your optimal well-being. Our recipes and culinary practices are built on knowledge that spans thousands of years, including the teachings of Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Asian and Middle Eastern culinary traditions, and European culinary traditions such as the Blue Zone food philosophy. While using these heritages as a base, we update our meals to reflect our present-day nutritional needs, such as removing allergens like gluten, creating a vegetable-forward and plant-based menu that is only one-third animal product, promoting gut health by including fermented foods, warm broths/stews, and spices and herbs, and creating a portion size that is ideal for receiving all necessary nutrients without over-indulging. As in TCM, we don’t count calories, because we don’t believe food should be experienced in clinical numbers, but intuitively by flavor, texture, temperature, and acknowledging each ingredient's therapeutic benefit.

What you choose to eat (or not eat) is deeply personal, and it’s important that our dishes reflect those decisions. Though our menus are primarily flexitarian, the Laroot experience can be tailored to meet your individual dietary needs. Options include pescatarian, vegetarian, and vegan. Our menu is non-GMO and free of gluten, refined sugar, and red meat. If you have questions about our ability to accommodate your food allergies, please e-mail us at hello@larootworld.com.

Yes. All meals are fully cooked and ready to eat! Most heat up in less than five minutes, and many can be enjoyed cold. For meals that are best enjoyed warm, we recommend heating your meal on the stovetop or oven rather than in a microwave.

The food is prepared in a local kitchen and delivered within twelve hours of preparation to ensure freshness and deliciousness.

To get the most out of the Laroot experience, we recommend eating meals according to the schedule provided with your delivery. However, meals will last three
days past their optimal date of consumption.
